| » Stock Market Avatar
We've added the new Stock Market avatar to the checklists and you can now mark it off on your Avatarlog. It is filed under "Games" since TNT lists the Stock Market as a game:

To get this avatar, you need to have at least 1 million NP under "Holdings - Paid" in your Stock Portfolio. Keep in mind that you can purchase up to 1,000 stocks a day, and only those above 15/share are purchasable.
We earlier had down that a negative % Change was needed, but thanks to eevee133239 and nafka for confirming that this is not necessary!
Punchbag Sid was also in the Battledome earlier today for about 20 minutes (~2:38pm - 2:55pm). Thanks to everyone who sent us a notice or email regarding his appearance, and congratulations to everyone who caught (and fought) him!

Happy Symol Day! In the past, we have found that a more-than-usual number of people report getting the related Symol avatar on Groundhog's Day in February.

| » The Future of Avatarlog
I'd like to thank everyone for bearing with us this past week! Last Thursday (September 25th), I integrated a bug fix for one section of the site, and this fix solved that particular issue but unintentionally corrupted our entire user table as a side effect.
This was a very serious show-stopping corruption, so several options were considered: a restoration from a backup (at the cost of losing ~1500 accounts), an extended hiatus (in order to fully revamp the site from scratch), or simply closing Avatarlog for good (the free time I have to work on this site is greatly limited by my college work, and Neopets no longer appeals to me the same way it did years ago).
I received a lot of email with input about Avatarlog, and would like to thank everyone who sent extremely supportive and kind sentiments :)
It's really awesome to know that there are users of this site who appreciate and understand the time commitment that goes into keeping Avlog running and can understand that I'd like to move on to other different things in life.
» So what's happening now?
The short version:
-
We're running on a backup file. Our server admin, Keith, is amazing and was able to locate a decently recent backup so fewer users were lost.

Is your account missing? Newly registered accounts -- activated or registered between September 20th and September 29th -- may be missing from our backup snapshot.
If your account has disappeared, please consult our account restoration page to see if we can restore your account for you.

New registration is currently closed. This gives us time to take care of any restoration requests from dropped users. In the meantime, feel free to use our Visitor account.

Site updates over the next months may be sparse. But I'll try to get around to posting any new avatars in a timely manner :)

Avatarlog plans to go on extended hiatus in late December. This is my winter break between semesters, and I'd like to re-evaluate whether I'd like to completely revamp the site during the hiatus, pass operations on to another entity to manage, or sunset the website and move on to bigger, better and less-Neopetty things :)
» Grundo - Discarded Plushie

» Backend Updates
Today we pushed some changes to our backend infrastructure code: we slightly modified our user authentication scheme, and we are now caching most of our avatar information to reduce the load on the databases.
^ The above probably sounds like Maraquan to a bunch of y'all, so here's what you actually need to know :P
- Sitewide Log-Out
Everyone was logged out of Avatarlog as a result of our code updates. You'll need to log in again to access your account.
- Having problems logging in?
If you forgot your password, use our Reset Password page. If you don't remember or can't access the email your account is associated with, you can contact our support email address for help. If you are having other login-related issues, notify that same address so we can fix any problems.
- Nothing Should Be Broken (Of course!)
Most of the changes occurred "behind the scenes", so you shouldn't notice any major changes in how things function on the site.
- Wait, you lied! I found something broken!
If you spot a bug, let us know so we can fix it! :) You can report bugs on this page or also contact us through email.
» Bonju Unavailable until next August (Most Likely)
We've just updated the info on Chef Bonju to note that the avatar method doesn't work today, September 1st. Chances are the avatar will be available again in August of next year :)

» Cellblock Mystery
There is still an avatar whose method we haven't completely solved -- Master Vex's Cellblock avatar! (Yeah, that horrible "random" one...)
A past Editorial stated that this avatar is not random, but so far no one has figured out what the exact method is.

An anonymous user emailed us several hours after the first Neopians* discovered the secret, providing the solution to the Bonju avatar and asking us to post the avatar method on the site. The email that revealed the solution to Neopia below :-)
You need the following items:
- Orange Juice [stocks at Food Shop]
- Gourmet Cooking for your Pet [stocks at Book Shop]
- and Blumaroo Steak [won at Test Your Strength, stocks at Spooky Foods]
Mix the above three items at the (regular, Mystery Island) Cooking Pot, while using Mad About Orange as your active avatar. For more information, see our indepth guide.
Update: The method no longer works today, September 1st, 2009 [we are still seeking username/Neoboard where this was confirmed]. We will be labeling this avatar as 'seasonal' as it is likely it will be available next August!
So far it is unknown if it is only available during the month of August. The Editorial says: there's only a few more days left to figure out the combination before the secret of the Bonju avatar is going to remain a mystery for another year -- however, they might just be referring to its discovery.
